FOR 12TH APPEARING / 12TH PASSED CANDIDATES
Candidates have the option to join as sponsored or non- sponsored candidates. Sponsored candidates are those who get selected by shipping companies before the start of the course. These shipping companies conduct their seprate entrance tests besides IMU and have their own standards with regard to eligibility criteria. HOWEVER PASSING THE IMU EXAM REMAINS COMPULSORY FOR EVEN THE SPONSORED CANDIDATES. ARI conducts sponsorship tests on behalf of various reputd shipping companies who have been its clients for many years now.
Non Sponsored candidates after passing the IMU CET (COMMON ENTRANCE TEST ) have to appear in IMU counseling and based o1 their rank they are allotted a college anywhere in India.
Sponsorship tests which are held for two separate deck cadet batches that start in 1st week of February and August every year. For the February batch the tests are generally held in the months of Sept / Oct while sponsorship tests for August batch of deck cadets are held in the months of April / May.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA |

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Pass in 10+2
examination from a recognized Board/University with Physics, Chemistry
Mathematics (PCM), with not less than 55% marks in PCM aggregate. |

With Physics as an individual subject in any one of the
years of B. Sc with not less than 50% marks in the final year of B. Sc from a
recognized University provided that the candidate must have passed 10+2
examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) from a recognized

B. E./B. Tech or its equivalent degree from I.I.T or
from a college recognized by AICTE/UGC. |

EXAMINATION: 6/6 both eyes without visual aids/ glasses and no color blindness.
You are required to successfully complete the MMD EYE SIGHT TEST PRIOR TO

| 2. FOR BE MECHANICAL (APPEARING / PASSED ) CANDIDAES |
ARI conducts a 6 months Prea Sea Marine Engineering training course in collaoration with South Tyneside college, South Sheilds, U.K ( MCA, UK Approved).
his course covers Phase 1 of the Joint 3-phase Training Program conducted in collaboration with SOUTH TYNESIDE COLLEGE, UK leading to National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 3 (Marine Engineering Operations) and Engineer Officer of the Watch (EOOW) C.O.C. Certification as per STCW95 Chapter III, Section A-III/1. The joint program is approved by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency,(MCA), UK. The cost for the course will be borne by the candidate.
On completion of this phase the Trainee Marine Engineer will have acquired the proficiency level required to begin his career as a Junior Engineer onboard Merchant ships.
Phase II of this training entails filling up a very comprehensive Training Portfolio, which conforms to the MCA requirement for Class IV examination in the U.K. during the period of employment as a Junior Engineer (10 -12 Month period of sailing) on board.
Phase III of the program is conducted at South Tyneside College (approximately 6 months)
On successful completion of the above Program cadet will now be in possession of:
NVQ Level 3 Marine Engineering Operations
MCA basic Watch Keeping Certificate Engineer Officer Of The Watch (EOOW)
The main benefit of the NVQ system of training that accrue for successful candidates is that the occupational competence is recognized in a national qualification (U.K)

MEDICAL
STANDARDS: As per MCAs Marine Guidance Notice in force. General
healthy physique and free from any mental or physical disability which is likely
to interfere with the efficient performance of demanding duties on board ship.
Students must meet international standards for seafarers with special emphasis
on vision, speech and hearing. Eyesight: Distant Vision - Better Eye 6/18, Other
Eye 6/60, Together 6/18. Near vision A vision acuity sufficient to carry out
duties efficiently. Glasses/contact lenses may be worn but eyesight in each eye
separately should not exceed plus/minus 2.5. No colour blindness. Must pass the
Ishihara Test for colour blindness. Candidates are recommended to undergo a full
eyesight test before applying for final selection. |

COMMENCEMENT OF THE COURSE : ARI as a policy conducts this course on request / requirement from shipping companies so that after completing the course candidates are assured of their placement on ship. Requirements from companies are expected throughout a year.

PROSPECTS ON COMPLETION OF THE FOUNDATION COURSE
After successful completion of the course, candidates will be eligible to be placed on board foreign going merchant navy ships as trainee/junior engineer. They will earn a handsome stipend.
Candidates may sail as Fourth Engineer or Third Engineer after clearing MEO Class IV examination, earning approximately $ 2,700 to $3,500 per month.
Candidates may sail as Second Engineer after clearing MEO Class II examination, earning approximately $5,500 to $6,000 per month.
Candidates may sail as Chief Engineer after clearing MEO Class I examination, earning approximately $7,500 to $8,000 per month.

| 3. FOR B.TECH IN ELECTRICAL / ELECTRONICS (ELECTRONICS AND COMMUNICATION NOT ACCEPTABLE) APPEARING / PASSED CANDIDATES |
|
Electrical Officer or Electro Technical Officer onboard ship is responsible for upkeep and maintenance of various electrical and electronics system onboard ships. 4 months fully residential course has a very high approval rating from various employers and our students enjoy 100 % placement record.
Career Prospects: After completion of the course, students are eligible to be placed onboard ships as trainee electrical engineer and can earn 600 USD per month. Subject to satisfactory performance trainee will be subsequently promoted to Electrical / Electro Technical Officer and can around 3000 USD per month.
